Culturally Responsive Facilitation Workshop

Speakers:

Cultural Responsiveness explore what it looks, feels, and sounds like to intentionally design spaces and relationships in which
people can show up as their culturally authentic selves.

A culturally responsive mindset prompts individuals to:
● Reflect on our values, beliefs, and identities, and consider the ways in which those factors inform how we communicate, navigate the world, and how the world navigates us
● Use the cultural knowledge, prior experiences, and performance styles of those we serve to make learning and engagement more appropriate and effective for them
● It relies on the rich cultural narratives within a space and community to develop and nurture lasting and intrinsic connections to content and people
● Recognize the beliefs, behaviors, and practices that get in the way of our ability to respond constructively and positively to diverse groups—especially those groups with which we are historically unfamiliar

Keynote: Q&A on Donor Advised Funds In Your Community

Speakers:

Question and Answer on Donor Advised Funds In Your Community, featuring Amy Pirozzolo, Head of Marketing at Fidelity Charitable in conversation with Alix Guerrier, CEO of GlobalGiving.

Fidelity Charitable has announced that it distributed a record $4 billion in grants from its donor-advised funds in the first half of 2019, an increase of 48 percent on a year-over-year basis.

What are donor advised funds? "According to the IRS, a donor-advised fund is a special fund or account controlled by a section 501(c)(3) organization called a sponsoring organization. Many people set up DAFs through community foundations. Sponsoring organizations can also be public charities--such as some university alumni associations--and investment firms that manage charitable funds. Schwab and Fidelity are among the big financial services companies that manage huge sums of money in DAFs."

"The strong rate of grant activity from donors who use a Giving Account underscores how donor-advised funds have become a growing source of reliable nonprofit support during periods of uncertainty or market volatility, such as the dramatic market drop we saw at the end of last year," said Fidelity Charitable president Pamela Norley. "At a time when individuals may be continuing to make adjustments to their charitable giving as a result of tax reform, donor-advised funds are more important than ever as a stabilizing force for giving."
